About Shelly Schultz

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona, holding a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. My approach to mental health, business, and life is deeply influenced by my personal experiences. From growing up in a tough environment with limited social support to my experiences as a Division I collegiate and professional athlete, I’ve gained firsthand insights into the importance of resilience and the critical need for supportive communities. These insights have guided my dedication to fostering environments conducive to growth and healing.

In 2020, I founded Kona, driven by a vision to start a group practice that not only offers high-quality mental health services but also fosters a supportive, collaborative environment for therapists. This initiative reflects the teamwork and determination I cherished in athletics, alongside the supportive network I wish I had early in my life. Today, I am proud to witness Kona flourishing as a vital community asset, aiding individuals, couples, and families across all stages of life.

As a therapist, I focus on assisting adolescents, adults, and both current and former athletes dealing with issues such as anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and performance concerns. My therapeutic method is integrative, involving the assessment and regulation of thoughts, emotions, physiological states, and environmental interactions. I primarily draw upon cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and polyvagal theory.

Outside of my duties at Kona, I enjoy engaging in physical activities, spending quality time with loved ones, and relaxing with my dog or a good comedy.
